TOBA Working for You

TOBA, based in Lexington, Ky., was formed in 1961 and is a national trade organization of leading Thoroughbred breeders and owners. TOBA’s mission is to improve the economics, integrity and pleasure of the sport on behalf of Thoroughbred owners and breeders. Projects managed by TOBA include the American Graded Stakes Committee, Claiming Crown, Ownership Seminars, Breeding, Conformation & Pedigree Clinics and the Sales Integrity Program. TOBA, in collaboration with The Jockey Club, has also created a free information resource called OwnerView to provide pertinent information to new, prospective and current Thoroughbred owners. TOBA provides international representation for U.S. owners and breeders on the International Grading and Race Planning Advisory Committee, International Cataloguing Standards Committee and International Breeders Federation. Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) is the charitable arm of TOBA. TOBA Media Properties, a subsidiary of TOBA, owns The Horse magazine, Eclipse Press and is co-owner of Blood-Horse LLC in a partnership with The Jockey Club Information Systems. TOBA is represented on the board of directors of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium as founding members.

TOBA manages the American Graded Stakes Committee. Graded Stakes races provide owners and breeders with a benchmark for quality of races and horses. The committee has been at the forefront of medication and testing reform.

TOBA’s charitable arm is Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA), a non-profit organization, whose mission is to raise money for Thoroughbred rescue, retirement, retraining, research, education, backstretch and therapeutic riding programs.

TOBA is the only national organization that coordinates Ownership Seminars, effectively recruiting new owners and breeders to the Thoroughbred industry.

TOBA co-created OwnerView.com, a website for prospective, new and existing owners to obtain relevant information about ownership as well as statistical data.

TOBA is a founding member of the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium, a program that develops policies to ensure the health and welfare of racehorses and participants and protect the interests of the racing public.

TOBA maintains a seat on the American Horse Council’s Racing Advisory Committee, making us a valuable resource for Thoroughbred owners and breeders. The American Horse Council is the national trade association representing the horse industry in Washington, D.C.
TOBA coordinates Pedigree, Conformation, Breeding and Auction Clinics to further the knowledge of industry participants, thereby helping them make informed decisions.

TOBA creates promotional projects such as racing’s championship day for blue-collar runners.

Owners Concierge is dedicated to the encouragement of excellence and growth in the horse racing industry by providing owners with exceptional customer service, timely information and access to local resources. The goal is to ensure an exciting and successful off-track as well as on-track experience by serving the diverse needs of Thoroughbred owners.

TOBA manages the Sales Integrity Program, a program designed to educate new owners about Thoroughbred auctions.

TOBA hosts the annual formal event recognizing the efforts of our colleagues in the Thoroughbred industry.
