Tom Gallo and Bill Mott discuss the owner/trainer relationship

The information-packed seminar officially kicked off with the owner/trainer team of Tom Gallo (Thoroughbred owner, Parting Glass Racing) and Bill Mott (trainer, Bill Mott Racing). Gallo and Mott discussed the many aspects of the relationship and working dynamic of a successful owner/trainer team. This discussion was followed by the Acquiring Your Horse Panel, comprised of Don Little, Jr. (Centennial Farms), Lincoln Collins (Kern Thoroughbreds) and Linda Rice (Linda Rice Racing). Seminar participants engaged in conversations related to public auctions, private sales and claiming.

The Business Panel included attorney Bing Bush, insurance agent Michael Levy and accountant Frank Palino. These speakers discussed the different business-related issues that all Thoroughbred owners should be aware of. Erin Crady, executive director of Thoroughbred Charities of America, discussed Thoroughbred retirement, a responsibility that begins with the owner. Rick Bailey of The Jockey Club and Carrie Vaught of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association covered online resources valuable to owners.

Clinic participants enjoyed a private lunch near the paddock, followed by an afternoon of racing at Saratoga. TOBA’s seminar and clinic program, sponsored by The Blood-Horse, is open to anyone with an interest to learn more about a variety of aspects of the Thoroughbred industry. Topics include pedigree and conformation, breeding, and Thoroughbred ownership. Click here to learn more and register for an upcoming clinic.
