Member of the Month

Joseph Sutton

Add a description

Joseph Sutton picked a good time to be introduced to racehorses. While stationed at Fort Knox, he attended the 1973 Run for the Roses. “I went to the

[Kentucky] Derby and saw Secretariat win the Derby and I just had a great time.” Watching Secretariat triumph over Sham en route to a Triple Crown victory, Sutton got hooked on Thoroughbreds. Forty years later, he’s in the winner’s circle as a breeder and owner. Read more.

Congratulations Award Recipients!

The TOBA 29th Annual National Awards Dinner was a huge success in recognizing 23 State Breeders of the Year, four Regional Owners of the Year, the National Owner of the Year, National Small Breeder of the Year, National Breeder of the Year, Broodmare of the Year, Rood & Riddle Sport Horse of the Year, and the Robert N. Pedigree & Conformation Clinic

October 18-19 in Lexington, Ky.

This two-day clinic covers many aspects of conformation and pedigree theories. Dr. Robert Hunt of Hagyard Equine Medical Institute will set the foundation of knowledge with a lecture on ideal Thoroughbred conformation and conformational faults. The clinic will then conduct live conformation evaluations of yearlings at the Fasig-Tipton sale, led by a balanced combination of consignors and bloodstock agents. Saturday will wrap up with a private VIP lunch and an afternoon of racing at Keeneland.

Sunday will kick off with discussions on pedigree theories and planning matings, followed by a visit to Ashford Stud to evaluate conformation of mares and stallions. The experts at Ashford Stud will also discuss conformation management and corrective procedures for young horses.
