Siena Farm
Siena Farm’s: Ignacio Patino, Anthony Manganaro, & David Pope photo credit: David Stephenson

The ancient Romans invented the triumvirate, a partnership of three of the most powerful men in the Republic. The concept of tripartite leadership hasn’t declined in the two thousand years since, resurging in modern Kentucky. Located near Paris, Siena Farm comes from the powerful trio of Chairman Anthony Manganaro, general manager Ignacio “Nacho” Patino, and president David Pope. The three co-owners have led their operation to the top of the horse world.

Manganaro purchased the property in 2007, at which time he had the idea of ”
creating a farm from scratch,” Pope said. The three experienced professionals built up an operation that operated just the way they wanted it to work; Pope was particularly excited about the opportunity of having equity in the farm where he worked. Of Manganaro, Pope noted, “We’re working for ourselves in addition to working for our families and working for him.” He added, “He’s always looking for a better way to do things, thinking outside the box.”

VIP Experience – Arkansas Derby Day Recap

Winning Connections of FOREVER UNBRIDLED – Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) Victor (pictured: Trainer Dallas Stewart and Owner Mr. Charles Fipke)

Memories are still fresh following Oaklawn Park’s recently concluded Racing Festival in Hot Springs, Arkansas, where attendees were treated to a wonderful weekend of racing.

The Owner Concierge’s principal reason for this particular visit was to assist Oaklawn and its track hospitality department with the care of its visiting owners, who along with bettors and fans, were treated to tremendous cards Friday and Saturday during Arkansas Derby weekend.

Owner Charles Fipke, a wonderfully enthusiastic man, walked away with the big prize Friday when Forever Unbridled strolled home best in the Apple Blossom. For a man that has committed as many resources into racing as he has, it was a pleasure to be on hand to witness his grand matron’s win.
Saturday’s card, which was equally stocked with several bourgeoning stars, gave rise to a new horse to watch in this year’s Triple Crown when WinStar Farm’s Creator gave the meet’s leading trainer, Steve Asmussen, Oaklawn’s marquee event for three-year-olds, the Arkansas Derby. The quote of the weekend can surely be attributed to Asmussen who–upon witnessing his charge almost take out half the crowd as the grey exited the winner’s circle–exclaimed, “We love him, but he WILL kill us!” If the colt’s performance was any indication, his opposition should also heed the trainer’s warning in the coming months.

Overall, a great job by the folks at Oaklawn Park and its hospitality department, headed by Deborah Keene. A lifelong horsewoman, Keene is an absolute dynamo and an asset to the organization.

The Breeders’ Cup

, one of Thor

oughbred horseracing’s most prestigious international events, has announced that it will return to Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky in 2018.

One of the world’s most iconic and recognized tracks, Churchill Downs last hosted the Breeders’ Cup World Championships in 2011. The return to Louisville reflects the Breeders’ Cup commitment to bring the event to the country’s best racetracks and to combine the sport’s best racing with best-in-class dining, hospitality and entertainment.

“We are thrilled to announce our return to Louisville,” said Breeders’ Cup President and CEO, Craig Fravel. “Churchill Downs’ ongoing, significant investment in their facility to enhance the experience for participants and fans aligns perfectly with our desire to conduct one of the best racing events in the world, and we’re looking forward to another landmark event in 2018.”
