Member of the Month
Darrell & Sadie Brommer
Owner-breeders Darrell and Sadie Brommer hit the big time on June 13. That day, their homebred three-year-old Prado’s Sweet Ride edged out Lady Zuzu to win the nine-furlong Regret Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Churchill Downs. Named TOBA’s Illinois Breeders of the Year in 2013, the Bloomington, Ill. residents have reached new heights with their graded stakes-winning filly.
The Brommers watched the race from home and are positively over the moon at the filly’s success. Darrell said, “We were hooting and hollering, watching it here at home on the ‘net.” After all, they “weren’t sure how she was going to come out after the race previous at Indiana,” he noted of her sixth-place finish in the May 30 Indy Star Stakes, “and the track condition wasn’t acceptable to her |

Ninth Race Added
to 2015
Claiming Crown: Distaff Dash
Claiming Crown has added a ninth race to the card in 2015 – a turf race for fillies and mares – and increased total purses to $1.1 million. TOBA members were invited to name the new race earlier this month. Lincoln Collins, president of Kern Thoroughbreds, won the race name challenge. The ninth race is officially named Distaff Dash. Congratulations to Lincoln for submitting this great name!
Created in 1999 to honor the blue-collar horses that are the foundation of the racing industry nationwide, Claiming Crown is racing’s showcase for the country’s best claiming horses. The 17th annual Claiming Crown will be held at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, December 5, 2015.
