Margaret Burlingham

 

 

Few Thoroughbred owners probably love their horses as much as Margaret Burlingham. A lifelong equine enthusiast, Burlingham imbues her racing endeavors with compassion for the animals she adores. That care shines through, especially for gelding Saint Leon. Now nine years old, Saint Leon reeled off his third consecutive win in the Arlington Spring Stakes, run at five-and-a-half furlongs on the turf, on July 5. Read more.

August 4: Pedigree & Conformation Clinic at Fasig-Tipton

Pedigree discussions include general theory, such as in-breeding, out-crossing and nicking as well as overall conformational factors. The seminar will identify common conformation faults and the effects of those faults as well as a live conformation workshop.

 

August 7: Ownership Seminar at Saratoga Race Course

This seminar features the owner/trainer relationship, options for acquiring horses, business topics, online resources and retirement. Attendees will also enjoy an afternoon of racing at the Saratoga Race Course.

 July 5 Ownership Seminar Recap

Fifteen current and prospective Thoroughbred owners gathered at Arlington Park on the morning of Saturday, July 5 to soak in the expertise of one dozen industry leaders on the many aspects of Thoroughbred ownership.
Dan Sullivan, president of the Illinois Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Foundation, opened the seminar with an introduction to the Illinois Thoroughbred industry. The morning was followed by panels on the topics of racehorse acquisition (panelists included Mike Campbell, Anthony Granitz and Marty Nixon), the owner/trainer relationship (Barry Golden, Michael Stidham, Dave Block and Chris Block), business issues (Jim Benkoil, Glen Berman and Joel Campbell) and Thoroughbred retirement (Jan Ely). The seminar wrapped up with lunch at the Terrace Caf� overlooking the Arlington Park track, and a sunny afternoon of racing.
