Your Monthly Membership Update: January 2018
Dear TOBA Members,

We are very excited to announce a new TOBA feature, a monthly membership update. The monthly membership update will highlight the popular TOBA Member of the Month feature story, as well as general membership information. The TOBA newsletter will now be sent to you on a quarterly basis.

I wanted to take a moment and introduce myself and thank you for being a TOBA member. We are able to continue our advocacy on behalf of owners, breeders and the entire Thoroughbred racing community because of your loyalty and support! I have had the opportunity to speak with many of you over the phone and via email. If we can ever be of assistance, please contact me anytime.

Warmest Regards,
Lauren Monnet

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Chester and Mary Broman
January Member of the Month

This past fall, Bar of Gold chose the perfect moment to shine. Already a multiple state-bred stakes winner, the then-five-year-old mare had been knocking on the door of a graded triumph for some time. On November 4 at Del Mar, she finally delivered, defeating some of the country’s best racemares in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1). A New York homebred for Chester and Mary Broman, Bar of Gold upset a talented field at odds of 66-1.

“It was an extraordinary thing, but that horse had a whole lot of ability. We liked the way it was bred,” said Chester Broman. Bar of Gold is by Medaglia d’Oro out of the Bromans’ homebred Khancord Kid. That daughter of Lemon Drop Kid won the 2010 Herecomesthebride Stakes (G3T) and was named that year’s New York-bred champion turf mare. At the 2000 Keeneland January Sale, Broman purchased Khancord Kid’s dam, the Storm Cat mare Confidently, then in foal to Mr. Prospector, for $1 million. A full sister to stakes winner Yankee Gentleman, eventual broodmare sire of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, Confidently was out of grade 1 winner Key Phrase (by Flying Paster).

Racing Europe Announces 2018 Dates

May 28-June 4: Baden Baden, Germany
We return to Germany’s best racing venue, where we had such a great time on our first visit in 2016. While enjoying the restful old-world atmosphere of this famous spa town, we’ll see the sport in a luxury lounge and front-row boxes at Germany’s best racing venue. We’ll get a good look at the increasingly influential German bloodstock industry by way of a farm visit and a sale. We’ll cruise a river, have a mountain-top dinner, see Heidelberg, and offer an optional excursion to historic Strasbourg in France. From our lodging at the renowned Brenners Park Hotel, you’ll have time to try your hand at one of the world’s most beautiful casinos and “take the cure” in the traditional way. This trip will close on April 2.

October 1-8 : France for the Arc de Triomphe
The greatest horse race in the world — the Arc de Triomphe — will be “back home” at the newly remodeled Longchamp Racecourse in Paris after a two-year hiatus. During our week we’ll have additional racing at Longchamp and also at Saint-Cloud and Compiegne. A longer stay in Chantilly this trip will allow us an extended visit to the major French training area and also more time for the other very worthwhile attractions in town. We’ll attend the Arc-eve sale of horses-in-training, and include some other special non-racing activities. You can take a day off from the track or extend in Paris to enjoy the city at the height of its best season. Our hotels are the new Auberge de Jeu de Paume in the heart of Chantilly and the traditionally luxurious Raphael in Paris.

Early to mid-March 2019: New Zealand
Following on our successful and much-enjoyed trips to Australia, we journey south of the equator again for our first expedition to this place long known for its scenic beauty and its high-quality racehorse production. March is fall in New Zealand, and arguably the best time to visit. Included will be major Group 1 racing at the country’s two most important tracks in Auckland and Wellington and some additional rural small-track racing. We’ll also have a a stay in the Waikato, home of most of New Zealand’s major breeding farms. A number of exceptional non-racing activities will be incorporated.

THANK YOU TO OUR PARTNERS!
