Ron Winchell
After a banner year in 2014, no one could blame leading sire Tapit if he decided to, well, tap out. First, his three-year-old filly champion Untapable dominated her division, capping off the season with a 1 � length tally in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (gr. I). She’s a homebred for Ron Winchell’s Winchell Thoroughbreds, which also co-owned her sire during his racing career. Then, there were those record earnings of over $16 million in one year. But 14-year-old Tapit and Winchell are just getting started. Read more.

The Jockey Club Purchases Majority Ownership Stake in Blood-Horse
The Jockey Club and the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) announced today that The Jockey Club Information Systems Inc. has purchased a majority ownership interest in Blood-Horse magazine. The purchase also includes related digital and custom printing properties of Blood-Horse, the Stallion Register, and Blood-Horse’s 50% interest in True Nicks LLC. Read more.

March 11-12 Pedigree & Conformation Clinic
Ocala Breeders’ Sales and Woodford Thoroughbreds, Ocala, Fla.
Expand your education on pedigree and conformation from leaders in the industry. The clinic includes a conformation seminar, live conformation workshop on two-year-olds in training at the OBS sale, farm visit and live conformation workshop on stallions and foals at Woodford Thoroughbreds, and discussion of pedigree theories and planning matings.
March 29 Thoroughbred Ownership Seminar
Lone Star Park, Grand Prairie, Tex.
Join other current and prospective owners at Lone Star Park to learn the ins and outs of ownership. We’ll have our typical ownership seminar discussions like the owner/trainer dynamic, acquiring horses and Thoroughbred retirement, along with integrating the Fasig-Tipton two-year-olds in training sale activities into the seminar: racehorse conformation workshop, under tack show discussion, and the public auction process.
April 18-19 Thoroughbred Ownership Seminar
WinStar Farm and Keeneland, Lexington, Ky.
This exciting seminar will kick off with a visit to WinStar Farm to learn how they train and prepare their horses for the racetrack. Day two will take place at Keeneland with a virtual ownership session on the backstretch, discussions on the owner/trainer dynamic, acquiring racehorses, public auction procedures and Thoroughbred retirement. The seminar will wrap up with an afternoon of racing at Keeneland.

The February 21 Thoroughbred Ownership Seminar at Oaklawn Park provided a wealth of information from both regionally- and nationally-recognized speakers. Bill McDowell, president of the Arkansas Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Horsemen’s Association (ATBHA), opened the seminar by highlighting the work of the ATBHA and the impressive breeders’ incentive program in Arkansas. Also representing the ATBHA was board member Lewis Matthews, who moderated the panels. Read more.
