TOBA Breakaway Rail Talk | December Member of the Month: Marty Zaretsky
Presented by Rail Talk in proud partnership with the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) Hosted by Joe Bianca & Jon Green
In this episode of TOBA Breakaway Rail Talk, host Joe Bianca sits down with Marty Zaretsky, owner/breeder of Pine Ridge Stables and TOBA’s December Member of the Month.
A lifelong New Yorker and self-made horseman, Zaretsky shares how a post-divorce move upstate sparked a love for fox hunting, which eventually led to a decades-long breeding career. This year, his New York-bred filly Iron Orchard—sired by Authentic—delivered Marty his first Grade 1 win as a breeder in the Frizette Stakes, then sold for an impressive $2.5 million.
From starting with a $5,000 mare to raising six-figure sales horses, Marty reflects on the heart, hustle, and unexpected joy of building a breeding program from scratch.

December Member of the Month:
Marty Zaretsky
A native Brooklynite, owner/breeder Marty Zaretsky has sent out many New York-breds over the years. This year, he reached new heights. In the name of his Pine Ridge Stables, he scored his first grade 1 win as a breeder: with an Empire State-bred, naturally. Iron Orchard won the historic Frizette Stakes (G1) for KatieRich Stables. She then headed west to Del Mar for the 1 1/16-mile NetJets Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), where she finished ninth in the Oct. 31 contest.
